Listening

1. Students will effectively listen and follow suggestions for self-improvement.
2. Students will practice listening for sentence stress

Writing

Students will be able to write a letter of advice.

Reading

Students will be able to use strategies before, during, and after reading to aid in the construction and enhancement of meaning the reading passage “Improve your Memory, Improve your Life”.

 

Unit 2: The Past and the future

 

Speaking

Students will be able to talk about the future or things to be accomplished in the future.

Grammar

1. Students will be able to use adverbs and prepositions to refer to time in the future.
2. Students will be able to predict the future with will, future continuous and future perfect

Listening

1. Students will effectively listen and follow opinions about public figures and future prediction.
2. Students will practice listening for syllable stress.

Writing

Students will be able to write a biography

Reading

Students will be able to use strategies before, during, and after reading to aid in the construction and enhancement of meaning the reading passage “The Global Village”.

 

Unit 3: Life's Little Lessons

 

Speaking

Students will be able to talk about rites of passage; describe turning points; describe regrets and hypothetical situations.

Grammar

1. Students will be able to use time clauses during, in, ago, from … to, for, since to express time.
2. Students will be able to describe regrets and hypothetical situations with should not have + past participle and if clauses + past perfect.

Listening

1. Students will effectively listen and follow descriptions of important events; regrets and explanation.
2. Students will practice listening for reduction of have and been.

Writing

Students will be able to write a letter of apology.

Reading

Students will be able to use strategies before, during, and after reading to aid in the construction and enhancement of meaning the reading passage “If you Could Do It All Again”.

 

Unit 4: The Right Stuff

 

Speaking

Students will be able to describe qualities for success; describe features; give reasons for success and talk about ads and slogans.

Grammar

1. Students will be able to give reasons with because, since, because of, due of, for and the reason (why/that).
2. Students will be able to describe purpose with infinitive clauses and infinitive clauses with for.

Listening

1. Students Students will effectively listen and follow features and slogans
2. Students will practice listening for reduced words

Writing

Students will be able to write a TV commercial.

Reading

Students will be able to use strategies before, during, and after reading to aid in the construction and enhancement of meaning the reading passage “The Wrong Stuff”.

 

Unit 5: That's Possibility

 

Speaking

Students will be able to make conclusions; offer explanation; describe hypothetical events and give advice for predicaments.

Grammar

1. Students will be able to use Past Modals for degrees of certainty.
2. Students will be able to use Past Modals for opinions and advice.

Listening

3. Students will effectively listen and follow explanation and listen for the best solution.
4. Students will practice listening for reduction in past modals.

Writing

Students will be able to write about a predicament.

Reading

Students will be able to use strategies before, during, and after reading to aid in the construction and enhancement of meaning the reading passage “The Blue Lights of Silver Cliff”.

 

Unit 6: Behind the scenes

 

Speaking

Students will be able to describe how something is done or made and describe career in the media.

Grammar

1. Students will be able to describe process using passive.
2. Students will be able to use defining and non-defining.

Listening

1. Students will effectively listen and follow a producer describes his work.
2. Students will practice listening for stress in compound nouns.

Writing

Students will be able to write about a process.

Reading

Students will be able to use strategies before, during, and after reading to aid in the construction and enhancement of meaning the reading passage “Hooray For Bollywood”.

 

Unit 7: There should be a law

Students will be able to give opinions for and against controversial issues; offer and a different opinion.
